If you are reading this section, you have probably completed the preliminary
design of your site. Great! Now is the time to start thinking about
promotion. Remember that both on and off-line promotion is critical to the
success of your e-business strategy.
Here are a few reminders as you begin the process:
- Remember to include your domain name on all print advertising, direct
mail, and public relation efforts. This is an excellent way to drive
traffic to your site. Additionally, be sure to include your domain name on
letter head, business cards and invoices. By including your website address
in all of your communication, you will not only be attracting new customers,
but you will have the opportunity to inform your existing customers of your
new web presence. One of the most powerful ways to grow your business is by
selling more to your existing customers.
- Begin gathering email addresses from all potential and existing
customers, and submitting their information into your program. This can be
done by going to the "Add Customer" section under the
"order/reports/customers" section. Compiling and managing a database of
email addresses and critical customer information enables you to promote
your business to a targeted market via email. Direct mail via email is one
of the only free ways to reach your market.
- Be sure to utilize the recommended free marketing resources. These
companies can assist you with the process of submitting your site to search
engines and marketing your site.
- Another important marketing aspect begins with analyzing the traffic that
is being drawn to your website. There is a section called "View Web Reports"
under the "order/reports/customers" section. View the "Web Report" section
often. This section enables you to judge the success of your current
marketing efforts. For example, if you send bulk mail, or buy add space in
a publication (don't forget to include your domain name) check your "Web
Reports" for the week following to judge your success. Typically you will
see a spike in traffic for a day or two following your effort.
