Scanning
Scanning is one of the most common ways for people to transfer their images
to digital format. It probably the least expensive one too. If you already
own one, great. If not, almost any one will work and there is no need to
spend a ton of money. You can go to one of your neighborhood "Super Stores"
and purchase one for less than $100.
Once you have purchased the scanner and have hooked it up to your computer,
you are ready to go. When scanning your images be sure to do it at a
resolution of 72 dpi. This is the limit that the Internet will support. If
you scan them in at a higher resolution, it will only slow down your site.
After your image has been scanned, you will manipulate the photo in a Photo
Editor program. The scanner you purchase will come with this software
included, and your computer probably has one as well. We recommend "Photo
Deluxe 2" or "Photo Deluxe 3."
"Paint Shop Pro" is another program that can be used. It is shareware, and can
be downloaded freely from download.com.
Whatever program you decide to use, make sure you save your images in the
jpeg or gif format (this is usually represented by .gif or .jpg in the file name).
Below are some cursory instructions on how to use #Photo Deluxe 2" and "Photo Deluxe 3".
